Somatic Therapy
in Ann Arbor
With Jennifer Janssen, LMSW
Being in your body is a direct path to healing - it shifts what insights often cannot.
Have you done therapy before but still feel stuck?
Do you understand your patterns, yet your body keeps reacting anyway?
You might be able to explain everything, but your nervous system is still on edge.
You’re exhausted from managing reactions that feel bigger than the moment. You’ve tried to think your way through it, but something deeper hasn’t shifted.
If this sounds familiar, Somatic Therapy can help.
Clients Come to Me For:
Constant anxiety
Body feeling on edge
Trouble sleeping
Shutting down
Emotional overwhelm
Doom-scrolling habits
Feeling numb
Past trauma lingering
How Somatic Therapy With Me Works
Somatic therapy focuses on what’s happening in your body, not just your thoughts. We slow things down so we can track where your nervous system gets stuck in patterns like fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown.
In our work, we use mindfulness of physical sensation to process past experiences held in your body slowly and safely. As your system begins to recognize safety again, reactions soften and you are more present in your life.
This is especially helpful if you’ve done Cognitive Therapy before but hit a plateau. We’re not just talking about your experiences, we’re working with how they live in your body.
Modalities I Use
-
Tracks body sensations to process stored traumatic memories and help your nervous system settle.
-
Works with parts of you through the body so deeper shifts can happen.
-
Helps you compassionately witness and care for the parts of you that feel overwhelmed, reactive, or shut down.
-
Helps deepen awareness of your inner experience during tough relationship cycles, so that you can make deeper changes in your relationships.
The body holds the key to healing trauma.

About Jennifer Janssen, LMSW
I came to somatic approaches to therapy because I dance, swim in local lakes, and hike in nature and it all showed me that the mind alone is not enough.
As a somatic therapist, I believe that deep change occurs when we direct our awareness to physical sensation, not just to thoughts.
In sessions, we track what’s happening inside in real time, stay curious, and work at your pace. My style is calm, compassionate, and real, with moments of lightness and laughter along the way.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy gardening, hiking, swimming and dancing. And as the parent to two children, a toddler and pre-teen, I have daily reminders of just how valuable it is to be grounded in your body and emotionally present as you engage in relationships with the people you love.
